    Vier Ganze und zwei Halbe

    Bildraum 07, Vienna 2020

In Vier Ganze und zwei Halbe, Jürgen Bauer mixes formal rigor with artistic wit. Against the backdrop of existing clichés about the house, the artist varies its associative form. The house as a repetitive outline, meticulously rendered on canvas and paper, is complemented by the intervention House Object (1W-1B).

The canvas and paper works are captivating in their sobriety, while Bauer's  House Object (1W-1B) — a site-specific work that is later dismantled — also questions the connotations of “home” with the familiar, comforting and safe. Mixing the concrete with the pleasure of imagination, the exhibition refuses to choose between fact and illusion. Like Christopher Nolan's Inception, new dimensions unfold layer by layer, along tilted or upside-down houses, touching the unconscious and encouraging us to look at our environment and ourselves from new angles.
