_{AHU DURAL
Her Shattering Room

Bildraum 07, Vienna 2019

In her drawings, collages and spatial objects, the Berlin-born artist Ahu Dural draws inspiration from designers and architects such as Eileen Gray, Janette Laverrière, Charlotte Perriand and her contemporary Isa Genzken. Architectural functional elements serve her as a starting point for the examination of images of modern interiors.

Her Shattering Room is about fragments, partial aspects and the risk of fragmentation. An erratic basic gesture emerges in her works - not immediately legible and detached from the original references. Ahu Dural uses reshaping, abstraction and transformation to illuminate the diversity within the fields of activity of female designers and architects from a contemporary perspective and to negotiate an appropriated interpretation of these 20th century art movements.
